An Analysis of Commercialisation of Scientific Research Findings, Support for Academic Enterprise, and Carrying out of Economic Activity by High Schools in Poland – the Selected Aspects

Summary/Abstract: The article concerns the issue of cooperation between high schools with their environment in Poland. This problem, in the context of changes occurring in the systems of higher education management, seems to be key at present. An aim of considerations is to present the selected aspects of commercialisation of scientific research findings, support for academic enterprise, and carrying out economic activity by high schools in Poland. For its implementation there was carried out a review of legal acts, Polish and foreign literature of the subject as well as an analysis of the desk research type concerning revenues of high schools from their economic activity in 2006-2013. In her article, the author presented the concept of the third mission of the high school as an opinion reflecting the growing importance of cooperation with the environment in high schools’ activities. She presented the opportunities and conditions for carrying out economic activity by high schools, particularly in the form of academic enterprise incubators and technology transfer centres. In the light of carried out analysis of the desk research type, there is emerging the picture of increasing activity of high schools, what can be seen as a symptom of positive trends in the area in question.
