Summary/Abstract: The article depicts the functioning of the Ukrainian schools for war refugees during the First World War. Most of them were in Wolfsberg, Choceń and Grödig. There was introduced the political agitation into the schools and the national movement was developed. This resulted in conflicts as well as initiated a variety of social initiatives. The teachers integrated the Ukrainian community and strengthened the national bond by promoting national language, culture and historical tradition.
