Summary/Abstract: Matter of secularization plays a particular role in a history of sociology of religion. One can make a thesis that from the beginnings of existence of sociology the discipline built a self consciousness of its representatives. They assume, as deeply rooted in heritage of French Enlightenment, that religion heads for its downfall in the conditions of new hierarchy of society. Theoretical basis of the idea of secularization, created in 50s and 60s of previous century, was considered to be doubtful. The article shows critical approach to the theory of secularization.
