Summary/Abstract: In this study the author examines the development and the impact of the strong sexual repression which settled in the heart of the Western Civilization around the middle of the XVI century and which really loosened only starting from the 1960’s. Within the founding tension between the libido of the person and the collective ideals, this process constantly developed during this long period, creating a strong effort of sublimation, under the different successive cultural expressions in relation to the religion, Enlightenment, medicine of the XIX century and the capitalist market. From 1960 to our days, a new approach to the Western sexuality has been developed, testifying about the profound cultural and societal movements.
