Summary/Abstract: The article is an attempt to summarize the current state of research on the complex relationship between Majakovsky and the power in post-Soviet Russia. The subject of analysis are three different interpretations of a given issue. Some critics perceive the poet as an indomitable singer of the revolution and a totalitarian state, while others regard him as a victim of totalitarianism. The most radical group of investigators accuses the creator of cynicism and hypocrisy. However, humanitarianism and the love of Majakowski's freedom and his complex relationship with the new authorities indicate that this issue should be subject to a more thorough and objective evaluation of literary science.
