Summary/Abstract: The association for the construction of the statue of the croniqueur Miron Costin was founded in Iassy in 1887. Its activity was directed by a Central Committee established in Bucharest. The members of the Society were: founding members (among them D. Sturdza, BP Haşdeu, PS Melchisedec, I. Calinderu, A. Papadopol Calimach, CD Stăncescu, A.I.Odobescu, N. Gane, T. Maiorescu, City Council of Iaşi, L. Negruzzi); Of honorary founding members (those who had personally paid a sum of up to 200 lei or those who had offered at least 400 lei for the monument) and ordinary members who had once given 40 lei. The names of all the members were inscribed on the parchment deposited under the pedestal of the statue.The cost for the construction of the monument - 33,060 lei (at that time the Romanian currency, the leu had the same value as the franc) - came from dues, conferences, parcels, festivals, balls, concerts, etc. .The monumental ensemble consisted of: a bronze statue made in Paris by the artist Wladimir Hegel
