Summary/Abstract: The period of Prince Charles's reign, which was to become King Charles I of Romania in 1881, represents a decisive step towards the cultural modernization of the Romanian state and Romanian society. Education, science, humanities, the restoration of secular and religious monuments, literature, the arts, inclusive theater, have developed extraordinarily. In conclusion this period (1866 - 1914) contributed to the general process of the renewal of Romanian society
