Summary/Abstract: The period between 1945 and 1989 represented for Romania a stage marked by the economic, political and military domination of the Soviet Union in Eastern Europe. The instruments used by the Soviet Union for the subordination of Romania and the other countries of the zone - of economic, political and military domination - were the Mutual Economic Assistance Council, established in 1949, and the Warsaw Treaty , Constituted six years later in 1955. The two organizations represented a response to the formation of the European Coal and Steel Community (18 April 1951) by the Western European democratic states and the formation of the Organization Of the North Atlantic Treaty, the political and military alliance comprising the Western European democracies, the United States and Canada
