Gheorghe I. Bratianu - from public personality to political martyr in communist prison in Sighet

Summary/Abstract: A remarkable scientific and political personality, Georges I. Brătiano represents a symbol for a whole generation and for the Romanian people generally. As a historian Georges I. Brătiano carried out fundamental studies of Byzantine history, of the Middle Ages and of the formation of the Romanian medieval state. In his quality of political personality he was a defender and a pimp of democratic regime in Romania. Unfortunately his scientific and political career was interrupted in brutal conditions by the representatives of the Communist regime and he became a political martyr by his death in the prison of the intellectuality and the Romanian political elite of Sighet.
