Summary/Abstract: The duel, as a reparation for injured honor, is practiced in Romania from the beginning of the 19th century. At the same time there appear special laws for the sanction of those who practiced it. Thus the first law against the duel appeared in Moldavia at the time of the reign of Prince Michael Stourdza (1834-1839) and subsequently the Penal Code of 1865 considered the duel as a special offense. Among the first cases of application of the law concerning the punishment of the duel was file I. Isvoranu - I.Heliade - Rădulesco of 1872. Both they and their witnesses were tried, but ultimately acquitted by the Court of Ifov. By their tragic end two duels remained celebrated shocking the public opinion. Thus, a strong impact had the duel against Nicolas Filipescu, the owner of the newspaper "Epoca", and Georges Em. Lahovary, owner of the newspaper "L'Indépendance Roumaine", of 1897. As a result of the duel with the saber Lahovary death. His partner and the witnesses will be acquitted at the end of the court proceedings. Another case, similarly with a tragic end, was the duel between Captain D.D. Maican and Lascar Zamfirescu (the son of the writer Duiliu Zamfirescu) of the winter of 1921
