Summary/Abstract: For King Ferdinand the renunciation of the throne of Prince Carol represented a heavy blow, not only because it placed in a delicate situation the monarchical institution but also for his state of health. The king had been suffering from the disease since 1925, when, as a result of an operation of hernia, he had a fit of phlebitis followed by successive embolisms, from which he escaped in a miraculous manner. However, in April 1926, during a medical visit of rutin, made to the doctor Romalo, he complained of certain disturbances. The latter recommended to him, supported also by the doctor Ernest Djuvara, the operation of hemorrhoids. The king has to postpone the operation several times, followed by the excursion on the Danube, on the days of 21 May-2 June. The King was accompanied by Queen Mary, Princesses Ileana and Helen, Prince Nicolas, ladies-in-waiting, officers, and officials. There were still 30 people who were staff members of the Royal House
