Summary/Abstract: This paper explores the nature of the relationship between CSR and competitiveness at a firm level. The main working hypothesis can be stated as following: there is a positive association between CSR and firms’ competitiveness, especially if a long-term perspective is considered. CSR can positively influence in the following ways: improved products and/or production processes, higher motivation and loyalty of employees, better publicity due to the award of prizes and/or enhanced word-of-the-mouth or better position at the labour market.
