Summary/Abstract: The present study focuses upon three chronological segments in the history of the lexical borrowings from Latin into Spanish and brings to the fore the contribution of each of the three centuries (XVII – XIX) to the development of the specialized languages characteristic of various terminological areas. Out of the corpus of erudite loan words which entered the Spanish lexicon we have selected the elements which pertain to the structure of specialized languages.
