Summary/Abstract: This article provides social theoretical overview about the effects of the spreading info-communication technologies on work-life balance. After the short introduction of five related grand theories I concentrate on the changing institution of family, the newly evolving working conditions and the connection between society and technology, and introduce two groups of middle range theories: conceptions that describe how info-communication technology and society interact with each other, and theories of work-life balance. The second half of the article aims to unveil logically deduced relationships that stand in the cross-section of the two topics (ICT and family) and the two middle range theory groups. These theoretical relationships result in phrasing hypotheses that can be verified by empirical researches.
