Summary/Abstract: In the first half of the Age of Dualism, two periodicals specialized emphatically in matching acquaintances and potential marriage partners. Both were published under the title of Hymen, one in 1874 and the other in 1881. They existed at the beginning of the year, in January, at the start of the carnival season, and lasted only four or five months, having disappeared by April or May. There appeared not only calls for marriage in the periodicals, but also adverts for mistresses or calls to start or help ailing businesses. The advertisers factually presented their assets, and set financial terms. Research questions focus on whether advertisers were men or women, what they wanted, their religion, place of residence and age. The first rough exploration of the 1881 issues of Hymen has been undertaken. Now, we examine the intensity of social change in a comparison of data from the 1874 issues as well.
