Summary/Abstract: The author analyzes the problems of teacher training through the prism of its functioning models and research results concerning the process of teacher education. These considerations are related to the strategic tasks of education and the need to prepare the society for the global transformation and yet unknown future. It presents visions of the teacher presenting new expectations towards this profession and proposals for education. The knowledge of these postulates is important for the modernization of the teacher education system and changes in the practice.
