Summary/Abstract: The world is changing and is more interdependent. This global interdependence led to a real international cooperation and, in this configuration, the emerging powers - Brazil, India, Russia, China, and recently South Africa – can not be ignored in the global governance process. This article aims to present, having as the starting point a theoretical approach to the concept of emergent power, the positioning of emerging powers (Brazil, India, Russia, China, South Africa – BRICS) in the changing global system and how they are influencing the patterns of power in the system.
