Summary/Abstract: Globalization is a troublesome concept even from the moment we attempt to define it. Scholars and the public opinion have not yet agreed on a single definition of the concept. Thus, in Elmar Atwater's opinion, globalization is „the process of overstepping boundaries, which have appeared throughout history. It becomes, therefore, synonymous with the erosion of the nation-state sovereignty and it appears as a «detachement» of the market economy from moral norms and the institutionalized connections between societies”. A shorter definition is provided by others who define globalization as the „greatest economic and social change from the Industrial Revolution onward”, while Ulrich Menzel defines globalization as a „quantitative and qualitative rise in transactions, which overcome border limitations accompanied by their spatial expansion ”.
