Summary/Abstract: In this paper the author gives a critical appraisal and ethnological evaluation of the contribution Ivan Franjo Jukić, a Bosnian Franciscan, made to the culture of the Bosnian Croats. Some of his work, especially his travels writing, contains much ethnographic data whose analysis would make it possible to at least partly reconstruct the picture of life in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the first half of the nineteenth century. The author also indicates the need for modern ethnological analysis of ethnographic material for the Croatian ethnic and state territory, with the purpose of research into inter-cultural and inter-ethnic relations. This ethnographic material includes travels written in the form of an autobiographical account (life story). With this in mind, the author considers that such an analyses could be used for research and insight into the total Croatian cultural and ethnic identity.
