Summary/Abstract: Heightened global concern about the human rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and intersex (LGBTI) people has called attention to the lack of adequate research on their lives and situations. With so little known in many parts of the world, filling knowledge and data gaps would be difficult without setting priorities. This paper uses the furthering of LGBTI inclusion as the criterion for identifying and recommending key research priorities. Our method for identifying potential priorities draws on a variety of sources, including a review of reports on research needs, consultations with researchers and LGBTI activists from many countries, and the findings of the UNDP LGBTI Inclusion Index consultation process. We find several key research priorities that stakeholders agree would advance inclusion, including research on health, education, economics, and political participation, as well as the development of a more robust research infrastructure.
