Summary/Abstract: International trade is an elaborate and complex activity, which has a number of areas of common ground with the other activities of socio-economic life. The opening of the economy is a composite and multifarious process which has various dimensions – economic, social, political, legal, cultural, ecological, etc. Free foreign trade is an additional source of growth and gains for developed countries and an oppor-tunity for benefits and catching-up development for less developed ones. Bulgarian economy is organically bound to, functions and develops under the influence of three ongoing processes. These are the process of globalization with the liberalization and the opening of the economy, the European integration within the EU and the development, dynamics and status of the internal economic life of the society.
