Summary/Abstract: Two archetypical pairs of artists have been existing in the art for many years: genius (Mozart) – craftsman (Salieri), master (Goethe) – student (Eckermann). The relations of Lila Shtern and Lev Losev with Josif Brodski (long-term relationship, the books dedicated to him) seem to come under the second pattern. “Seem to”, since in both analysed publications (Brodsky: A Personal Memoir; Iosif Brodsky) there are visible authors’ efforts to generate new language of discourse, attempts to find a place for themselves in the contemporary cultural space, probably on the borderland of high culture and popculture, an audience from the intellectual ghettos and consumers from McWorld.
