Summary/Abstract: The responsible factors in Kosovo and Metohija initiated bringing in the norms dominant in developed European media systems, particularly the standards of the British BBC, in order to regulate the media system according to the standards in the world. The European level of norms did not enable overcoming the conflicts between the irreconcilable media. A difficult heritage and recent harsh social reality, which marred relations between Kosmet communities, contributed to the situation as well. The media systems of the national communities have poor communication, mainly indirectly via mediators (UNMIK, KFOR, non-governmental organizations, prominent persons, local leaders of public opinion…). Building of an integrated media system or creating conditions for undisturbed communication of media subsystems of national communities of Kosovo and Metohija is prerequisite for building of Kosovo-Metohijan society. The role of the media system with built mechanisms of self-regulation and respecting professional standards in overcoming stereotypes, inter-ethnic conflicts and fostering the dialogue is of great importance. Only the media with high professional standards are able to build the bridges between the conflicted parties and create the conditions for the dialogue between irreconcilable ethnic communities in Kosovo and Metohija. The failure of the international community in the implementation of peace on the territory of Kosovo and Metohija reflects in poorly built media, which should be able to realize previously mentioned goals.
