Summary/Abstract: The Author points out two different strategic models that molded and governed the western world since the great economic crisis of 1929 till now: state interventionism, proponed by Keynes, and market self-regulation proponed by Hayek. Keynesian policy functioned successfully providing at the same time social stability and economic growth. It had its full affirmation during the Sixties under the name of Welfare society. Then it fell into a crisis, just for the reasons that Hayek had critically suggested: it became too expensive bureaucratic creation in which the economic potentials were hindered. The Welfare state was removed by neo-liberal policy, founded on Hayek’s and Friedman’s theory. Deregulated economy brought rigorous economic growth and in- creased employment until the emergence of global world crisis 2007. The last part of the work questions the reasons for ongoing recession and in which direction the new economic policy is heading.
