Summary/Abstract: The focus of the paper is on the categories of pluralism and media diversity in the context of media communication and democratic changes, globalization and ownership concentration. Although media pluralism and media diversity constitute the basic conceptual categories of media theories, they are often wrongly used as synonyms. Therefore, the issues of media pluralism and diversity and the differentiation between them have long been one of the most disputable and controversial topics in the discourses on media freedom and media policy. This debate begins with the attempt to define the concept of media diversity, since there has been a large number of different concepts and understandings of the things which comprise the notions of media, pluralism, concentration, information, freedom of speech etc. This text should make a contribution to this debate by providing a cognitive insight and a proper resume of the issues and arguments which have been quoted by the participants in this debate.
