Summary/Abstract: The Lithuanians who came to live to the USA were very active in culture, yet our knowledge of their participation in musical activities is but fragmentary. Some academic monographs have been already published as well as articles on Lithuanian music culture in the USA at different periods of time. However no systematic information about Lithuanian pedagogical activities exists. That is why this article is the first review of Lithuanian musical education and training in the USA in 1870-1940. The author tries to determine how music influenced national mentality, and how national self-consciousness assisted developing Lithuanian music.
