Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to present the assumptions underlying the construction andanalysis of business terms in the dictionary of business terms of 1870-1914. All lexicalunits incorporated into the discussed dictionary are selected from a particular columnof the Kraków daily newspaper “Czas”.The research into business terms taken originally from daily newspapers was facilitatedby the prototype semantics theory and the concept of frames and scenes, the useof which enables the attribution of analyzed linguistic structures to real life objects aswell as to a human being as a cognising subject. It is the prototype semantics theory thatthe article discusses first in the context of rules for the reconstruction of the semanticrepresentation of terms incorporated into the dictionary of business terms of 1870-1914.The concept of frame semantics by Charles Fillmore is discussed later as a tool usefulin the interpretation of the prepared glossary.
