Using ear-muffs on shale gas drilling rigs

Summary/Abstract: This article presents measurements of noise parameters and estimates of noise exposure for workers on shale gas drilling rigs. It also presents a practical example of selecting ear-muffs for workstations in which noise levels in the audible range have been exceeded. Research has shown that to reduce noise exposure and to improve work comfort for an electrician, a mechanic and a tower driller assistant, it is necessary to use two kinds of ear-muffs.
