Cookery vocabulary as the element of linguistic creation of the world in the novel „Relatives” by Józef Korzeniowski

Summary/Abstract: The goal of the article was an attempt to illustrate vocabulary register connectedto cooking or food as the elements of linguistic creation of the world in the novelby Józef Korzeniowski.The scrutiny of the text allows to notice that one of the most importantcomponents of linguistic creation of noblemen and their pastimes is the vocabularyrelated to food and eating habits.It adds an extra dose of realism, creates the illusion of reality and reflects thehabits of both: the poor and the rich people of villages and towns exposing theirhospitality. The analysed material includes the terms for food items, ingredients, andproducts as well as the names of dishes or beverages.
