Summary/Abstract: The care of archival documents in the Ottoman Empire was born very early and maintained throughout its existence. The first serious attempt to protect archival documents was done in the 16th century, in order to establish a system for recording and keeping records of central government bodies in the 18th century. In the 19th century, a central archival institution (1860) was established under the name "Babi Ali Evrak Odasi", and made certain archival regulations. At that time, intensive, commissioned, they looked at the selection of the preserved documentation from earlier periods. Archival activity was intensified during the time of the Republic of Turkey. New classification systems were introduced, new archive workers were employed and system of provenance was introduced. Cooperation with a large number of countries has been established, and since the beginning of the 21st century, the process of automating this activity has intensified. Publishing activity has been enhanced. All this has affected the faster opening of archives for researchers. Because the interest of scientific workers for Turkish archives is enormous.
