Summary/Abstract: The existence of an appropriate legal framework and its implementation in practice is not in itself sufficient guarantee for the successful opposition to the challenges of political corruption. This problem should be approached in a systematic way, and that includes on the one hand, the limitation of political power through institutional strengthening of internal structures of government, while, on the other hand, should develop mechanisms for doing the external public pressure on officials. The results of the study of corruption indicates that the weakness of the institutions in our society is one of the primary causes of the spread of this social phenomenon. When this is not just a word about one of the branches of government, namely the executive power, has a dominant position in relation to the legislative and judicial power. The main problem is that political corruption has reached the point at which corrupts politics, while in the eyes of citizens just government is the embodiment of politics. Great difficulty in fighting political corruption is the state of the judiciary as one of the key factors in establishing the rule of law. If corruption is viewed in light of the systemic problems that exist in the exercise of judicial power, the main difficulties is related to the implementation of anti-corruption legal provisions, weaknesses in the administration of justice and the inability of the judiciary to “confront” the executive and legislative branches of government. One of the most important preconditions for democratic consolidation is a civil society activism, which is the best protection to the politically corrupt behavior of those who have power. Condition si¬ne qua non for the efficient performance of civic pressure on the authorities is the availability of information about the government, in which media play the significant role. In addition, it is necessary to have mechanisms for pressure by organized groups, as well as ways to present individual petitions of citizens. There are the great challenges for the citizens of Serbia on the road to establishing an environment that is worthy to be marked as the rule of law. Not only is there a word about the existence of institutional and legal mechanisms to combat against political corruption, but about adopting the system of social values rooted in the idea of government which is limited by law. The first steps on this path have been made, but it is not nearly enough for successfully dealing with the problem of corruption, whether it occurs in a political or any other field.
