Summary/Abstract: The article focuses on pragmatism of a warlike metaphor in the Soviet sub-discourse about the culture during the Stalinism period. The research objective aimed at determining to what extent the warlike metaphor was used to shape the image of the cultural life in the Stalinist USSR . The material was divided into several semantic groups corresponding to individual ranges describing the culture as a conflict (SITU - ATION , ACTION AND PROCESS ; BATTLE GROUND , BATTLE PARTICIPANTS , MILITARY ATTRIBUTES ). The collected material allows to conclude that the metaphor of WAR was relatively widely used in the texts of the Soviet sub-discourse about culture during the Stalinism period. It also forms a basis for a statement about confrontational character of the culture of that period.
