Summary/Abstract: It is possible to find the theoretical roots of the modernity which has been experienced by Western societies in the historical process and transformed to an ideology for Eastern societies in the discipline of sociology. When it comes to east especially Islam, in the writings of Karl Marx and Max Weber who are among the founders of sociology, it is reflected as “barbarian” while west is a “noble”. In this study, I will analyze the directly and indirectly thoughts of the two classic sociologists with the evolutionary process of modernization in terms of eastern societies. Particularly, I will focus on the spiritual awakening which was seen as salvation for sub-classes in the western societies, whereas how imperialism was presented as a salvation when it comes to eastern societies by Marx. Furthermore, how the hermeneutic approach which was developed by Weber takes on an ethnocentric meaning when it comes to Islam and Islamic societies will also be analyzed in this study.
