Summary/Abstract: Queen Elisabeth of Romania was influenced in her literary works by three personalities of the Romanian culture of her time: Vasile Alecsandri, Nicolae Grigorescu and George Enescu. She admired the three artists for the way they expressed the specifics of the Romanian traditional culture in their works of poetry, painting and music. As a writer under the pen name Carmen Sylva, Queen Elisabeth tried to show the beauty of the Romanian traditional culture in some of her own literary works, mostly in a stereotypical manner inspired by the three artists, and thus to promote and popularize it primarily in her native country, Germany, as well as worldwide.
