Summary/Abstract: The concept of homeland is among the main concepts which comprise the linguistic picture of the world of every individual. It accumulates in itself a rich spectrum of notions of a protected, home-related, cozy and sacral space, of a community which serves as a basis to distinguish between us and them in a literal and symbolic way. The present paper discusses the types of nominations of this concept which exist in the mind of young Bulgarians born abroad. It presents the results of an empirical study of the linguistic and cultural markers used by 40 Bessarabian Bulgarian students at the Taraclia State University in Moldova, and by 21 14-18-year old Moldavian pupils with Bulgarian identity from different secondary schools.
