Summary/Abstract: Ammunition purchase decisions are confounded by two signifi cant factors: long lead times for suppliers to produce and deliver ammunition; and signifi cant usage uncertainty. This puts a premium on careful planning to make sure that there are no shortages and, at the same time, that inventories are not excessively high. This paper presents a model for determining purchase requirements which trade-off these competing objectives.
