Summary/Abstract: Everyday classroom activity has revealed problems students have in fields like efficientreading, understanding the overall meaning of the text not just the words, or understanding nativespeakers’ language, communicating in a foreign language. At present, it seems to be crucial thatstudents be exposed to authentic learning situations which have a connection to the real world inwhich they can have the opportunity to practice language using authentic materials. Starting from theassumption that authentic materials and media can help students develop and enhance the connectionbetween the language classroom and the outside world, the goal of this paper is to offer a newperspective on how language teaching can be improved through the use of authentic materials in ESPclasses. In this respect, we conducted a study in order to assess the impact that the use of authenticmaterials in teaching ESP classes has on the developing of students’ communicative competences.
