Summary/Abstract: Abstract: International Environmental Law is an important component of international public law, which currently enjoys great attention as a result of the growing concerns of States in protecting the environment, the awareness of its importance for the existence and continuation of human life, as well as the connection between the two. The regulations concerning environmental law have evolved over time in stages and are not characterized by homogeneity or general binding legal force, as they are a set of legal norms contained in international treaties, customary international law, soft law and guiding principles whose legal nature is not clearly established at this point. In this medley of rules and principles, the question arises whether the existing rules are characterized by legal efficiency or not, given that there has not been set up a coherent system of supervision of their implementation neither a special international jurisdictional body to apply sanctions in the case of adopting a contrary course of action by a State. The aim of this paper is to make an incursion into the emergence of international law of environmental law and its outline as an autonomous discipline, emphasizing its pronounced interdisciplinary character and identifying the normative landmarks.
