Summary/Abstract: This paper presents the results of (exploratory) research conducted inorder to identify and classify the most frequent (dominant) mistakes in documentingthe originals in the text corpus of 100 essays of students at the beginning of vocationalstudies. The results showed that: 1. students often use incomplete bibliographicparenthesis when quoting (and paraphrasing) in the essays (in 25% of the entirecorpus information about the page from which the quotation was taken is omitted,in 15% of the corpus the original year of publication is missing); 2. students do notmark quotations longer than 40 words (more than 4 rows) visually in the text (thistype of mistake was noted in 44% of the corpus); 3. footnotes are used for quotationof electronic original text, contrary to the rule (in 45% of the corpus of research); 4.students do not follow the rules of indirect quotation in the text of the original - theoriginal source is absent completely and there is only an indirect source in 34% ofthe corpus. It was concluded that in the teaching practice of vocational studies moreattention should be paid to the technical aspects of student essays, as it is one ofimportant aspects of the preparation of articles in academic and scientific purposes.
