Summary/Abstract: “The Legend of Thyl Ulenspiegel and Lamme Goedzak” by Charles De Coster was adapted on numerous occasions and in various modalities. However, one of the examples where the work of the hypo-author, that of the adaptor and that of the illustrator diverge inequivocally is also the first in chronological order, namely, the text intended for young readers published in 1924. This analysis aims at examining the matter of subjectivity in the illustration of children’s books, based on the engravings of Maurice Langaskens.
