Summary/Abstract: The goal of the article was to analyze, taking ownership policy of the Polish state as an example, the factors which caused substantial growth of statism in its economic policy. The evolution of the privatization policy has been shown: from 578 Piotr Kozarzewski support for economic transition, through sticking to purely fiscal goals and up to its almost full extinction. At the same time, the state was strengthening its role as an owner and investor. The analysis of these changes leads to a conclusion, that they have predominantly endogenous character with major role played by vested interest groups which extract rent from the state property, although such factors as socio–economic views of decision makers and expectations of voters are also of certain importance. Exogenous factors, such as the global financial crisis and growing popularity of statist solutions in economic literature and practice, play secondary role, mainly through strengthening the endogenous ones.
