Summary/Abstract: Use-alteration analysis undertaken on the pottery retrieved from reliably defined archaeological contexts may reveal some details of the every-day practice of cooking in the monastery Studenica during the 13th and 14th centuries.Carbon deposits are discussed, as well as abrasive and non-abrasive traces on vessels of various functional groups, basically the cooking ones and the ones for consumption of food and beverages. This analysis, the first one of the kind applied to the mediaeval pottery, opens up the path to more reliable and comprehensive understanding of ware usage in the Middle Ages.
