Anti-Hero Image within the Frameworks of Metafiction and Historicism in the Novel of Selim İleri’s “Cemil Şevket Bey, Aynalı Dolaba İki El Revolver”

Summary/Abstract: Selim İleri’s novel Cemil Şevket Bey, Aynalı Dolaba İki El Revolver should be evaluated as a sample of postmodern novel. The writer creates an anti-hero that is Cemil Şevket Bey who was not taken into consideration in his time so he used to change his attitudes in every event. The novel is mainly concentrated on the life of Cemil Şevket Bey and some other historical events and people are also mentioned in parallel with his life. Multiple-narration technique in the novel’s construct strikes the attention. While narrating the life of Cemil Şevket Bey, the writer uses Cemil’s works, memoirs and own information. Thus, a multilayer structure is formed in the novel. In this structure, many literary works, music, cinema, theatre and opera take place.
