Summary/Abstract: The Second World War, which drew human beings into wide ranging bereavement and pain, has been one of the main themes of world literature. Chingiz Aitmatov lived through all the difficulties of this war. The Second World War served as a basis for his work though he did not write about actual battles. His work examined the background of people affected by war; for example, he wrote about the women who served as guardians of elderly, disabled people and children. To Aitmatov, the word ‘war’ involved not only the Kirghiz people, but the global nature of the conflict.
