Summary/Abstract: Epics, as the beginning forms of the world literature, have tremendous effects on people’s lives and their values. The Epic of Koroglu is one of the most important and distinguished epic poem in Turkish literature and this research reveal “mil çekme” (to blind somebody with a hot iron) as a way of penalty and it has consequences throughout the whole epic poem. “Mil çekme” incident made Rovsen, the epic hero, full of revenge and this incident itself is the remarkable subject matter and the trigger of the story. Blinding the granddad’s eyes with a hot iron is actually the cause of how Rovsen became the epic hero and also Kırat, another important figure in the epic appeared.
