Contributions to the Lexicology of the Anatolian Turkish from the Dialects of Eskişehir

Summary/Abstract: The studies on dialects is one of the best sources contributing to the lexicology studies. Since the eclectic method is as well as the vocabulary which is compiled from the field is used in the studies of dialects, the dictionaries or the indice of these studies are more wholesome. The vocabulary which will be examined in this study is limited to the words compiled by Canan İleri for her work “The Dialects of The Eskişehir Town of Mihalıççık and Its Region”. Every word chosen for this study was taken after it was searched in the On-line Grand Turkish Dictionary of the Türk Dil Kurumu (Büyük Türkçe Sözlük), the Dictionary of the Dialects of the Anatolian Turkish and the Dictionary of the Agricultural Terms (Güncel Türkçe Sözlük, Tarama Sözlüğü, Türkiye Türkçesi Ağızları Sözlüğü ve Ziraat Terimleri Sözlüğü). The “idioms” are also listed as part of the vocabulary. The idioms were also searched On-line Dictionary for Proverbs and Idioms of the Türk Dil Kurumu. The vocabulary is provided with examples created by sample sentences from the “Texts” part. As a result, with this study, 129 new words and 15 new idioms were found, as a humble contribution to the vocabulary of the Anatolian Turkish.
