Summary/Abstract: The problem of classification and typology of the early trypillian material is relevant in the modern research and also there are some new methods used in the new studies. For instance, the typology of trypillian figurines by A. Pogozheva was developed in 1983 and became widely acknowledged in the field. But not all methods are studied and tested. The emergence of the new material gives us a possibility to consider and test the very methods of research. In the article the methods of study oon early trypillian figurines are discussed. Author analyzes the typology and dating methods based on the morphological characteristics of early figurines of Trypillia, first of all method proposed by V.G. Zbenovych. In this method we have two stages of the early trypillian figurines’ development. The first type has the small size figurines without ornament.. The second stage features have a large size (over 10 cm), equal proportions of the trunk and legs and developed incised ornamentation. This research’ method is proposed as a method of dating and raises the possibility of using it as a classification of this type of material. Relative chronology of types is compared with the results of radiocarbon analysis, published by Yu. Rassamakin. Comparison of the dating methods from the results of radiocarbon analysis of data raises new questions of typology and classification of the Trypillya material.
