Summary/Abstract: This study examined the Governments Programs, published by goverments that have been in power from 1920 to 2017, in regards to the urbanization, squatting, zoning and regional development policies of governments in Turkey. The aim of this study is to determine and reveal these policies, namely “spatial strategies”, in these official political documents (the Government Programs) and then to shed light on the historical background and roots of urban and regional problems in today’s Turkey. In this context it is important to put forward and examine these questions in detail: Currently, what are the key urban and regional issues and problemes? How these problems have been described from past to present by all governments in power? What do they offer and what are their strategies to those issues? How are these strategies formulated in the Government Programs? Is there any differences between today’s Government Program and previous programs in regards to determine the problems and develop a policy on spatial issues? Are there any differences between political stability and instability periods in regards to determine the problems and develop a policy on spatial issues? For answering these question all Government Programs were used as main reference guide.
