Summary/Abstract: In order to improve corporate performance and create competitive advantage, HR specialists need to focus on new priorities. These priorities require more strategic and business orientation and less attention to traditional HR functions. In recent years, researchers saw the role of HR specialists as changing from operational, administrative, functionally oriented and reactive to a more strategic,consultative, business-oriented and proactive one. The contemporary HR specialists have to transform themselves into strategic business partners in response to the new business needs.This article presents the results of an empirical survey among 108 medium and large-sized organizations in Bulgaria aimed to track the status of the Bulgarian HR professionals in the organization and reveal the factors that lead to its changes.
