Summary/Abstract: The main theoretical background of this study comes from Bowen’s multigenerational model, according to which experiences individuals had in family-of-origin represents a legacy which tends to influence their life-span development, including the romantic relationships. Using multiple linear regression analysis, we explored the contribution perceived cohesion and adaptability of family-of-origin have in prediction of adjustment to marital relationship among adults. The participants (N = 299) filled out several questionnaire, but in this study we will present data which were collected with: The Family Adaptability and Cohesion Evaluation Scales (FACES), which were adapted to measure actual perception participants have about experiences they lived in family-of-origin and Revised Dyadic Adjustment Scale (RDAS), as a measure of three facets of marital adjustment. There were no differences between women and men in observed variables. The participants’ age, along with family-oforigin cohesion and adaptability were significant predictors, accounting for 8,2 % of global marital adjustment. Also, age was significant predictor of marital satisfaction, while family-of-origin cohesion was significant predictor of marital consensus and family-of-origin adaptability was significant predictor of marital cohesion. Some implications results have for marital counseling and therapy are discussed.
